The Denver Board of Water Commissioners declared an end to lawn watering season on 9/26/2026.  This will prohibit lawn watering and all spray irrigation after Sept. 30. Customers may keep hand-watering or drip-irrigating trees , perennials, shrubs and annuals as needed.

As a Water Distributor for Denver Water, the Wheat Ridge Water District will discuss this at our September Board meeting. Customers in our District should expect that our lawn watering will also change, but at this point the Board vote has not yet  been finalized. 

When considering this change to our watering restrictions, Denver Water issued the following considerations to the change:

Denver Water is facing historically low reservoir levels and severe drought conditions, with natural streamflow from April through July at just 22% of normal and reservoir storage currently around 72–73% of capacity, far below the historic median of 94% .
